Problem Gambling?

What is problem gambling?

Gambling involves placing a bet in a game of chance. You bet money on some outcome, hoping to win more money. However the outcome of the game is based mostly or totally on chance. Although you will occasionally win some money, if you keep gambling, over time you will certainly lose money. In the long run the odds will always be against you.

For some people, gambling is a source of recreation. They play occasionally and only bet small amounts of money. They know that in a game of chance the odds are ultimately against them, so they know when to stop gambling.

For others, gambling that starts as fun can turn into a serious problem. If you have a problem with gambling, it means that you may have difficulty limiting the amount of money or the time you spend gambling. It means that your gambling probably results in negative consequences for you and creates problems for you with your family, friends, at work, or in the community. Essentially, when you lose control over your gambling behavior, or when your gambling brings about significant adverse effects in your life, you may be engaging in problem gambling.
