The grand opening of the Social Art Gallery was on Oct. 3, 2008 and coincided with the opening of Italian artist Pietro Angelo Maffei's exhibition, "La Famiglia: Uno Studio Mataprospettivismo." Blending bright colors and exaggerated forms in 52 paintings and 6 sculptures, Maffei - who traveled to the United States for the first time to supervise the installation of the exhibit - is well known in Italy for his distinct representation of the family. He has exhibited his artwork throughout Europe and was recently commissioned to create a sculpture for a WWII memorial in Italy. For the opening, Family and Children's Service joined with community organizations, including Laziali Nel Mondo, which celebrates Italian culture. Two paintings and a scuplture are currently on display in the first floor lobby of the Albany office of Family and Children's Service of the Capital Region.
