FCSCR is proud to announce that it will play a critical role in assisting the people and businesses that were impacted by the hurricanes. Background of Disaster Case Management
In 2006, congress passed the Post Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act (PKEMRA) which “grants the President authority to provide case-management services, including financial assistance top state or local government agencies or provide such services. to victims of major disasters.
In 2011 after two devastating hurricane and tropical storms, the federal government along with Catholic Charities USA, and New York State acknowledged the need to build capacity and develop plans that include the support of disaster case management. In support of these efforts, Family and Children’s Service of the Capital Region has assumed a leadership position that will fill the existing gaps identified by Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA) , New York State , and local stakeholders.
The Disaster Case Management Program is voluntary service for survivors and is comprehensive and long-term in nature, with services planned through August of 2013.
