What You Should Know About Your EAP
Your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an employee benefit paid for by your employer. It provides professional
counseling, referrals for services and training that can help with problems that may affect the quality of your personal
life or job performance. Your employer values you and offers EAP as a resource for you to use whenever decide you need it.
EAP is not insurance; there are no co-payments or deductibles. It is a unique program that offers services completely
free to you, and your eligible family members. You do not need to sign up to be enrolled in the EAP program.
You are automatically enrolled as an employee of the business providing this benefit.
Even though your employer is providing EAP as a benefit for you, the services are confidential. Capital EAP does not
report back to your employer any identifying information about who is using the program. In fact, Capital EAP is
required by law and strict professional codes of conduct not to release any information to anyone without the
client's expressed written consent. Capital EAP is even careful when scheduling appointments so that employees
from the same company do not see each other coming or going from EAP appointments.
Capital EAP counselors are, however, required by law to report to the appropriate authorities incidents where
clients pose a serious danger to themselves or others or in cases of child abuse.

What to Expect When You Call Capital EAP
Trained EAP intake specialists are on staff to answer your calls during regular business hours. If you are
calling to schedule an initial appointment or to request a referral, you will be asked for general information
like your name, address, phone number, Social Security number, etc. If you are scheduling a counseling appointment
at our Albany or Clifton Park office, the intake specialist will offer you an appointment. If you are outside the
Albany or Clifton Park area, the intake specialist will arrange for one of our affiliate counselors near you to
contact you back within 24 hours to offer you an appointment.
If you are calling for a depression screening, the intake specialist will ask you the same series of questions just as
if you were scheduling a counseling appointment. You will be offered an appointment time when the counselor will call
you back to do the screening over the phone.
A legal referral or financial referral will be given after the initial information is taken. You will be given the
name and telephone number of the attorney or financial professional and instructions for you to call to arrange for
your consultation.
You may sign up for an EAP workshop by letting the intake specialist know the name and date of the workshop
you are interested in. You will be asked for your name, where you work and a daytime telephone number where
you can be reached in the event we need to notify you of any changes.
